It could be argued that you only get out what you put in, with this case, Moguai has fully reaped the rewards of hard working ethics and a highly honed production sound, firmly establishing himself as a one to watch out for in 2012. With a rapidly growing worldwide fan-base, Moguai had a massive year in 2011 with releases such as ‘Oxygen’ and ‘Beat Of The Drum’ on Mau5trap records. He has started off the new year bigger than any other producer at the moment with his album coming out this month as well as a Serious XM radio show.
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to interview with us here at techibeats.com how are you doing today?
Hey there, I´m currently a bit busy building a 2nd home in Berlin and preparing for the US dates, but apart from that I´m doing fine.
You have such a unique sound, where does your inspiration come from? (artists, sounds, ect.)
My inspiration comes from pretty much everywhere, it can be a song on the radio, or the print on the T-Shirt of the guy that passes by, it´s really different.
Not only is your sound unique but your name is also, can you explain how you came to have the name “Moguai” ?
That´s quite simple to explain: My sister studied architecture and had a project of a club in Barcelona she called “Moguai”. I liked that name so much that my moniker was born.
If you weren’t a DJ/Producer what do you think you would be doing?
Hm, I studied law and was close to the final exams when I had my first chart hit in Germany and decided to make a living of DJing and producing music, so I guess I´d be a lawyer then… or maybe a pro Skater J
You had a massive year in 2011 and it already looks like your going to have a bigger year in 2012 with your new album ‘Mpire’ coming out this month, what can you tell us about it?
What I can already say, is that the album will be much more uplifting and club focused, but still has these melodies and atmospheres. Additionally there is a collaboration with Tommy Trash, and some vocal features on it, which are really huge!
Not only do you have your album coming out but your new radio show on Sirius XM premiers January 11th, how did that come about? What should we expect?
Looks like someone at Sirius XM likes me It´s kind of a four show special, presenting my upcoming single, and of course some previews of the tracks on the album, so you´d better tune in!
As you know, there has been a massive spike in interest with house music in the U.S, what do you think took so long for this country to catch on?
That´s pretty hard to find out, it took nearly two decades that America discovered the benefits of EDM which was invented there anyway somehow.. strange But seriously, I don´t really know but I´m happy that it finally happened!
How has DJ’ing changed for you over the years?
It started with playing just one vinyl after the other, then it came to switching from Vinyl to CD, and I have to admit that I was really a hardliner when it came to switching to CDs.. but the benefits were just too big. Right now I really love my current setup, which consists of a Macbook running Ableton Live, and those 2 iPads acting as controllers, it´s pretty versatile and I can edit any track on the fly, adding new FX, vocals or melodies to it. So the possibilities to interact with the crowd are way bigger than before.
You have your new album and Radio show coming out this month and it seems like you never slow down for a second, is there anything else you have in store for your fans in 2012?
Apart from the album, radio and touring there are more remixes and some collaborations coming up. But right now I´m focusing on the release of the album.
Thank you for your time we know you are a very busy man, it’s a true pleasure to speak with you.
