Mysterious Swedish House Mafia Campaign Uncovered

Recently a few short videos of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello were released showing the former Swedish House Mafia members pensively contemplating in an epic landscape of mountains and ocean. The videos were accompanied by a mysterious website that created a frenzy of speculation as to the meaning of the new campaign.

Today a longer video was released featuring a mellow rendition of the group’s track ‘Leave The World Behind’ with Lune, announcing the newly launched partnership between the trio and Swedish car manufacturer Volvo. The partnership marks the launch of Volvo’s new crossover model, XC90. It seems that the group will most likely not be getting back together as many people had guessed but they are clearly still riding on the tidal wave of success they achieved. Check out Volvo’s website here for more info.

Steve Angello Launches New Record Label

Steve-Angello1-2048x20481-590x590

Steve Angello has just announced that he will be launching another label in addition to his very successful Size Records which he has been running for 10 years now. The new imprint will be a sub label called X and the first release will be a two track EP from Trent Cantrelle titled ‘Nice & Close’. These tracks stray from the big room sound that has come to dominate the sounds coming from his label and offer a more pumping house vibe. ‘Nice & Close’ was featured as the opening track on Steve’s recent Essential Mix and was one of my personal favorites of the mix. The release date for ‘Nice & Close’ is set for May 6th so be sure to check back! Enjoy!

Event Review: Ultra Music Festival Weekend Two

575869_431831206911476_651525157_n

Celebrating it’s 15th year anniversary, Ultra Music Festival has grown over the years into one of the world’s most prestigious EDM events. Boasting an impressive 7 stages in the heart of downtown Miami and an eclectic lineup featuring everyone from the superstars like Tiesto to the underground kings like Richie Hawtin and Seth Troxler. With any event of this scale, there are bound to be some problems, but for the most part Ultra did a really good job providing festival goers with the best possible experience. Lines weren’t unbearable, traffic was manageable, water was free, there were plenty of bathrooms, and getting from stage to stage was relatively easy and quick. For the most part, crossover noise between stages was minimized despite a couple unavoidable exceptions. Overall it seemed that Ultra had listened to their fans and did everything they could to make this an incredible experience for all and I think they did an excellent job. Our team went to the second and final weekend. Check out what I had to say about the festival below.

Alesso vs. OneRepublic – If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix) [Preview]

Alesso techi

The unforgettable melody from Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso’s anthem, “Calling,” paired with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic’s amazing vocals made for such a jaw-dropping combination in “Calling (Lose My Mind)” that they couldn’t possibly leave the collaboration at just that. Thus, the formula for success picks up right where they left it as Alesso’s remix of OneRepublic’s “If I Lose Myself,” takes a familiar combination but re-invents it to create something brand new. Ryan Tedder’s vocals and the gorgeous grand piano intro play off of each other to introduce the song as well as Alesso’s signature synthesizer melody chorus. It’s reminiscent of his sound in his collaboration with Dirty South, “City of Dreams,” because of the power and raw emotion behind the drop. Although it’s just a preview, “If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix)” is destined for greatness as everything that Alesso is associated with normally is. Take a listen below and stay tuned for the release off of Seb’s Refune Records April 4th. Enjoy!

Spotlight: Evan Duffy

Evan-Duffy

In the past few months, Evan Duffy has gained a lot of attention on YouTube for his piano covers of popular dance tracks. Although he does not produce electronic music himself, he has become embraced in the community for his keen ability to recreate originally synthesized music and has even garnished the attention of several popular producers who frequently use his covers in their sets. In my mind, Evan Duffy’s transcription of electronic music helps shine an important light on the musical elements of the genre in a more traditional sense. It not only reveals a deeper beauty in the music, but also reveals a different side of the music to both non-believers and lovers of EDM alike. Luckily, I had a chance to catch up with Evan (who happens to be an incredibly genuine guy) to ask him a few questions, and this is what he had to say:

Interview: Eric Prydz

There are so many artists in the world of dance music these days, but one of them stands alone. The artist we are talking about is Eric Prydz. Since day one Eric has stayed true to himself, true to his nature and has become an icon by following his own beat instead of others. It doesn’t matter if he’s producing under his real name or one of his other famous aliases like Cirez D or Pryda. At the end of the day, he evokes emotion and tells a story with every production he puts out. Not many people can juggle originality while being in the mainstream scene and he does it with ease. With countless mainstream and underground tracks, the man is known as a musical genius and not only has an extremely large mainstream audience, but a massive underground following as well. Reigning from Sweden and now currently living in Los Angeles, Prydz continues to be known as the king of originality. It was a true honor to interview the man himself and we will remember this one for a very long time to come. Check it out after the jump!

Light Nightclub Announces More Residencies

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the new Las Vegas nightclub, Light, that is presented by Cirque Du Soleil. Clubs at the Wynn hotels and the Marquee at the Cosmopolitan have previously boasted impressive residency lists, so with this new club coming in to the scene it was a bit unclear if Light would be able to put together a worthy roster. Today they unveiled a very impressive list of 21 DJs that will hold residency at the brand new club, with big names such as Axwell, Skrillex, Zedd, Sebastian Ingrosso, A-Trak and many more. It seems that Light is shaping up to present some serious competition for other big Las Vegas clubs with an all star lineup and a totally reinvented concept of the Las Vegas nightclub. Check out their website for more details here.

Marcus Schossow – Helvete (Original Mix)

In English, the Swedish term, “Helvete” translates to “hell”. This track

we have presented for you today is about to raise “Helvete” on dance floors worldwide. Coming straight from the mastermind of Sweden’s, Marcus Schossow, we have this genre exploring and big sounding track, “Helvete”. Intended to help his sets go from “beautiful to hard”, “Helvete” does just that. Upon clicking play, this number starts off with a promising Swedish sounding melody that is sure to uplift any spirits. As the song blossoms, the intensity and tone of the track picks up and so do the basslines. Right as the song is about to drop, we are amused with a sample foolishly saying “oh my god is this dubstep” before breaking into a unique heavy sounding drop that reminds me of Nicky Romero’s 2012 anthem, “Toulouse”. Without a doubt this song is sure to turn up any party level to maximum rage mode. For any lover of an intense and heavier sounding progressive composition, this track is perfect for you.
