Spotlight: Evan Duffy

Evan-Duffy

In the past few months, Evan Duffy has gained a lot of attention on YouTube for his piano covers of popular dance tracks. Although he does not produce electronic music himself, he has become embraced in the community for his keen ability to recreate originally synthesized music and has even garnished the attention of several popular producers who frequently use his covers in their sets. In my mind, Evan Duffy’s transcription of electronic music helps shine an important light on the musical elements of the genre in a more traditional sense. It not only reveals a deeper beauty in the music, but also reveals a different side of the music to both non-believers and lovers of EDM alike. Luckily, I had a chance to catch up with Evan (who happens to be an incredibly genuine guy) to ask him a few questions, and this is what he had to say:

Deadmau5 – Some Strobe ‘N Stuff (Spaveech Mau5 TRAP Remix) [Free Download]

If you’ve been following Wobble Wednesday the last month, the name Spaveech should start to become familiar to you. For those who aren’t aware of the NYC based producer, then it’s time to wake up and see the light. Back at it again this week with another exclusive Wobble Wednesday remix, we have Spaveech’s dissection and intertwining remix of Deadmau5’s, “Some Chords”, “Strobe”, and “Ghosts ‘N Stuff”. The result is massive and translates into “Some Strobe ‘N Stuff (Spaveech’s Mau5 TRAP Remix)”. As the song unfolds, Spaveech’s creativity accentuates and various components are picked up along the way. The drops in this track are untouchable and truly unique. Not only did he combine three songs as the root of the composition, but his accenting sound is almost a combination of the three heavy bass hitting genres; trap, dnb, and dubstep. He’s really put himself into a league of his own and this remix solidifies it. Download, click play and let Spaveech do the rest.

Deadmau5 – > album title goes here <

> album title goes here <, Joel Zimmerman’s follow up album to 4 x 4 = 12, is difficult to fully embody with any other word than “sophisticated”. In the time since his last album, Deadmau5 has become a very prominent figure in music news and culture, landing the cover of Rolling Stone and causing an immense stir when voicing his feelings about the technicality of live electronic performance. However, with the release of > album title  goes here <, it is clear that his ability in the studio is what has defined him as one of the elite artists amongst his peers.

The opening track on the album, ‘Superliminal’, is a clear display of Joel’s signature complex and unorthodox synth work. ‘Channel 42′ was produced along side Wolfgang Gartner and the track’s electro stylings are similar to that of their last track, ‘Animal Rights’, with a slightly more melodic vibe. With Gerard Way (lead singer of My Chemical Romance) on ‘Professional Griefers’, Imogeon Heap providing soothing vocals to ‘Telemiscommunications’, and ‘Failbait’ featuring rap group Cyprus Hill, Deadmau5 displays the diverse abilities that along side impeccable production quality have come to define his music. The collection of diverse and unique tracks that make up this album show that Deadmau5 is not one to be restrained by the all too common industry standards and truly make this his best work to date.

Sebastion Kreig, Strobe & Danny Freakazoid – Room 300

This progressive masterpiece came out this week on the label “Jee Digital” and it’s a must have. The track breaks down with a unique synth rift at the two minute mark and goes into a drop that is constantly rising.
