The first International Music Summit: Engage occurred almost a month ago on April 17th in Hollywood, California. Jeff Rosenthal interviewed Skrillex during the event and shed light on the producer’s musical history, music rights, previous musical engagements, and everything in between. In a surprisingly intelligent and informative interview, Skrillex gives insight into many factors within his progression into electronic music. The interview is lengthy, but is a really great conversation between Jeff and Sonny and their careers in music production.
Diplo & Skrillex Join Forces Creating Supergroup – ‘Jack U’

Move over Boys Noize, it looks like Dog Blood has some new competition. It appears as if the wonderkin we all know as Skrillex has decided to team up with an even bigger co-star, Diplo. The lineup for the annual Mad Decent Block Party has a diverse array of artists all performing on the same stage throughout the summer. Among those prominent artists, however, is Jack U. If you had a dumbfounded look on your face when you came across that name, don’t worry, so did we. A tweet from Diplo a few days ago cleared up any confusion by simply stating “Jack u… Means skrillex+diplo..”. The two will be performing together throughout the duration of the tour and we cant wait to see how their diverse yet compatible styles clash. Next we can only hope that the duo will be hitting the studio together for some serious production time after the tour ends.
Wobble Wednesday: Skrillex ft. Damian Marley – Make It Bun Dem (MONSTA Bootleg) [Free Download]

Last year there was an epidemic of “Make it Bun Dem” remixes that resulted in one of the largest Beatport remix contests to ever be held. As we’ve seen this song dissected and transformed into every way, it’s understandable to be skeptical upon seeing yet another remix of this track. However, fellow OWSLA members, MONSTA, have given this track a whole new light and completely enhanced the familiar stems in all the right ways while still establishing their own sound. The UK trio embellished this track by morphing it into a fast paced, bass slamming track that would fall under the future of bass music in this new “trapstep” movement. Legendary tune, monumental remix and a free download, happy days!

Talks Of New EDM Awards Show In The US

Dick Clark Productions, the same company behind the Golden Globe’s, has apparently woken up and wants to jump on the EDM bandwagon like many other bigger music industry players in recent days. According to the New York Post, Dick Clark Productions is planning to put on the first ever electronic music awards show. Apparently they are looking for a TV partner to air the show, but there are not many more details regarding the show at this time.
Coachella 2013: 15 Electronic acts you can’t miss and why
The final countdown has begun and nothing makes us more antsy than knowing only a few more days of school work stand between us and our unofficial “holiday weekend.” Last week, the city of Indio granted approval for Goldenvoice to extend their annual music festivals on the polo fields through 2030 and also expand to hold 15,000 more attendees by next year. As loyal Coachella fans rejoice over the news, we couldn’t be more excited to return to the holy land. By now we’re checking off what to pack and who to see, aside from mentally preparing for the heat waves that await us, BUT before we hit the road…we leave you with one more cheat sheet to festival success!
Durante – Challenger EP

The four track EP by Durante, recently released by OWSLA, is a fusion of varying tempos and styles. The first track, “Take A Look” is a deeper, smoother track than the rest of the EP. “Radio” is a bit more of an electro-oriented track but Durante can be heard taking the same stylistic approaches on rhythm and synthesis aesthetic on this one as well. The last two tracks, “Challenger” and “Crash”, although slower than the rest of the EP, still retain those house grooves making this a solid EP from up and comer Durante.

Wobble Wednesday: Hundred Waters – Boreal (Brillz Remix)

The up-and-coming trap producer, Brillz, has been making quite a stir in the scene lately with his remix of Clarity as well as his kick off tour with Kill The Noise. His intense trap sound is unlike many of the other producers in the genre, which can be heard in his versatility as a producer especially in his newest remix of Hundred Waters’ track, “Boreal” off of OWSLA. The song displays Brillz softer side as gentle synthesizer melodies introduce the song and the coherence of the track is not sacrificed as is the case in many trap songs when the drop finally hits. Electro chords, a chill drum beat, and shredding synthesizers make up a tranquil (compared to what we’re used to from Brillz), yet effective drop that will get you moving as well as open your eyes to him as an artist. Take a listen below and hear for yourself. Enjoy!

Alex Metric – Ammunition Pt. 3 EP

The British DJ/producer Alex Metric is one of the most underrated producers around in my opinion. Alex is one of the few producers who has never been constrained specific genres. He has a unique style that incorporates a hard hitting electro sound, grooving disco vibes and big room sounds that are consistently produced at the highest quality. Following the release of Ammunition Pt. 2 after teaming up with Skrillex’s OWSLA team Metric has just released Ammunition Pt. 3. ‘Ilium’,the first track on the EP, has a driving progressive electro feel that is exquisitely glued together with soft breaks, complex percussion, an energetic topline and perfectly incorporated vocal snippets. The second track on the EP, ‘Scandalism’, chills out the vibe with a moving bassline, euphoric arpeggiated top line and an infectious melody. ‘Want Ya’ is in the same vein as ‘Ilium’ with a pumping low end, chopped up vocal samples and interspersed piano stabs that makes this track hit hard while still maintaining a groovy vibe. To round out the EP ‘Rave Weapon 2′ slows the pace from the original single as Metric gives the track a more ominous feel with a drawn out dark bassline intertwined with pounding percussion and unnerving synth stabs. Ammunition Pt. 3 is a breathe of fresh air in as it really stands out from the myriad of releases these days that have fallen into the confines of what has been deemed as popular in dance music today.

Wobble Wednesday: A$AP Rocky ft. Skrillex – Wild For the Night (Official Music Video)
“Wild for the Night” was the result of A$AP Rocky & Skrillex bringing their vastly different musical approaches together to form the turn up anthem of 2013. The music video for the track is the result of the A$AP Mob and Skrillex taking their talents down to the slums of the Domincan Republic. In this highly entertaining video we see A$AP & Skrilly cruising the town on scooters, flashing some gang signs, dancing and immersing themselves with the locals and then finally bringing the party to a Dominican club. Besides their musical styles, A$AP & Skrillex couldn’t act and dress more different, but judging by this video I think we might have a new member of the A$AP Mob … A$AP Skrilly. The video ends in the club with Skrillex showcasing his DJ skills and blending in one of his newest and highly acclaimed releases on his label OWSLA, Candyland’s remix of Kill Paris’ “Slap Me”. Watch the video above, enjoy, and get used to these kind of collaborations, because this is the future my friends!
10 Must-See Acts Under the Radar during Weekend 1 of Ultra Music Festival
In celebration of its 15th year, Ultra has unveiled many new announcements for festival goers such as the event taking place over two weekends, free water filling stations, and festival wide wi-fi connection. While these are all amazing additions to the already stellar event, the most obvious and most notable spectacle is this year’s stacked lineup. This has to be the best lineup in its 15 year history, in which it boasts some of the biggest names in dance music and brings fans such a wide variety of genres. Most people already know about the household names and chances are they’ll end up catching their performances, however we’d like to shed light on ten of this year’s must-see Weekend 1 acts that aren’t making as much buzz.
