Spotlight: Evan Duffy

Evan-Duffy

In the past few months, Evan Duffy has gained a lot of attention on YouTube for his piano covers of popular dance tracks. Although he does not produce electronic music himself, he has become embraced in the community for his keen ability to recreate originally synthesized music and has even garnished the attention of several popular producers who frequently use his covers in their sets. In my mind, Evan Duffy’s transcription of electronic music helps shine an important light on the musical elements of the genre in a more traditional sense. It not only reveals a deeper beauty in the music, but also reveals a different side of the music to both non-believers and lovers of EDM alike. Luckily, I had a chance to catch up with Evan (who happens to be an incredibly genuine guy) to ask him a few questions, and this is what he had to say:

Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me (Kryder & Tom Staar Remix)

In case you didn’t catch this massive track on Morgan Page’s In The Air 123 Podcast earlier this week, you can thank me later for bringing it to your attention once again. This track has been stuck in my head for days and it is excellent in every way. Afrojack & Shermanology’s original melody shines through the chorus but is given an edgy makeover by Kryder & Tom Staar into a major electronic music festival staple. The buildups are exciting and the drop is unique and it’s just an all around massive party track. Enjoy.

R3hab & Shermanology – Living 4 The City (Original Mix)

Shermanology enlisted R3hab to lay down some of his signature chainsaw madness on their latest single ‘Living 4 The City’. Just as you might expect form this group, they lay down a high energy track with some great vocal breaks from Shermanology. Creative synth work and screaming leads make this track into a solid electro banger.

Morgan Page – In The Air – Episode 123 [Free Download]

This week in podcasts, Morgan Page compiles a hard hitting house mix consisting of pieces from Discopolis, Tommy Trash, Felguk & Yves V, and Benny Benassi. All of this week’s tracks have been huge tracks that have been dominating charts across the board as well as having been used by various arists during their sets. The two huge ones to highlight are Benny’s “Perfect Storm” and Kryder and Tom Staar’s Remix to “Can’t Stop Me Now” with both have gained so much popularity in the short amount of time they’ve been released. There was not one DJ that did not drop those tracks this past weekend in Vegas and I’m sure if you attended Insomniac’s Escape From Wonderland, you are just as fimiliar with those tunes now.

Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me (The Remixes)

Afrojack & Shermanology’s “Can’t Stop Me” was one of the biggest releases of the year after it took countless festivals by storm back in early 2012. One might think that such a release could not be improved upon, but these two remixes from Tiesto and Rehab & Dyro are nothing short of spectacular. Both renditions do the original track justice as they hold true to the catchy synth leads and vocals while implementing their own distinct sounds. Tiesto’s remix starts of just like the original mix but it kicks into overdrive when the drop hits with a hard modulated bassline. R3hab & Dyro’s remix strays a bit farther away from the track’s original sound as they incorporate chainsaw synths into their high-energy drop. Each remix is distinct in their own ways and should not be slept upon, so be sure to check ‘em out!

Electric Daisy Carnival 2012 Las Vegas: Official Recap

Simply put, this weekend was UNREAL. It began Thursday morning with a five-hour excursion from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, stopping only once for our precious In-N-Out. After finally touching down at our suite at the Mandalay Bay, we made it down the strip to the Hardrock Hotel to meet up with the rest of the Techi Team. What then ensued could only be described as a night of complete debauchery, leading into the next morning ready to head back to Mandalay Bay, where our good friends Gregory Sills and Peter Sims, together known as Fista Cuffs, played the topless pool party. Now that the darkness was approaching, it was time to call the limo and make our way to the main event – the one and only Electric Daisy Carnival, Las Vegas. Continue on for a day by day recap of everything that went down at the Motorspeedway on this legendary weekend…
