Spotlight: Evan Duffy

Evan-Duffy

In the past few months, Evan Duffy has gained a lot of attention on YouTube for his piano covers of popular dance tracks. Although he does not produce electronic music himself, he has become embraced in the community for his keen ability to recreate originally synthesized music and has even garnished the attention of several popular producers who frequently use his covers in their sets. In my mind, Evan Duffy’s transcription of electronic music helps shine an important light on the musical elements of the genre in a more traditional sense. It not only reveals a deeper beauty in the music, but also reveals a different side of the music to both non-believers and lovers of EDM alike. Luckily, I had a chance to catch up with Evan (who happens to be an incredibly genuine guy) to ask him a few questions, and this is what he had to say:

Review: Mat Zo & Porter Robinson At The Boulder Theater

At the moment, Porter Robinson is touring around the country on his Language tour along with Mat Zo and The M Machine. Last week he made a two day stop in Colorado at the Boulder Theater and The Ogden, where we caught the first show in Boulder which was sold out! After The M Machine played an awesome set, Mat Zo took the stage, and the young Anjunabeats star wasted no time getting the crowd roaring. He played an amazing, eclectic and original set filled with his own great productions, new bangers and old classics – all seamlessly making the crowd beg for more.

After a short wait, the young 19 year old Porter Robinson took the decks. The crowd erupted as he opened his set with his classic banger, ‘Say My Name’. Despite his young age, Porter has achieved a massive amount of success, touring with Tiesto and Skrillex, releasing an his Spitfire EP on Skrillex’s OWSLA label, and his latest track ‘Language’. He has developed a unique style of DJing where he transitions quickly through songs, pairing high energy heavy electro songs to creat an incredible energy. Throughout the night, Porter took the crowd on a crazy ride which truly proved why he has had such great success despite his young age.
