Alex Metric – Ammunition Pt. 3 EP

7064463

The British DJ/producer Alex Metric is one of the most underrated producers around in my opinion. Alex is one of the few producers who has never been constrained specific genres. He has a unique style that incorporates a hard hitting electro sound, grooving disco vibes and big room sounds that are consistently produced at the highest quality. Following the release of Ammunition Pt. 2 after teaming up with Skrillex’s OWSLA team Metric has just released Ammunition Pt. 3. ‘Ilium’,the first track on the EP, has a driving progressive electro feel that is exquisitely glued together with soft breaks, complex percussion, an energetic topline and perfectly incorporated vocal snippets. The second track on the EP, ‘Scandalism’, chills out the vibe with a moving bassline, euphoric arpeggiated top line and an infectious melody. ‘Want Ya’ is in the same vein as ‘Ilium’ with a pumping low end, chopped up vocal samples and interspersed piano stabs that makes this track hit hard while still maintaining a groovy vibe. To round out the EP ‘Rave Weapon 2′ slows the pace from the original single as Metric gives the track a more ominous feel with a drawn out dark bassline intertwined with pounding percussion and unnerving synth stabs. Ammunition Pt. 3 is a breathe of fresh air in as it really stands out from the myriad of releases these days that have fallen into the confines of what has been deemed as popular in dance music today.

Review: Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel

893021_424508074310456_592162534_o

Every now and then an artist comes around that captivates you with every sound he releases and every audience he touches and even more rarely do they come in packs of three. Since 2008, the trio reigning from Stockholm, Sweden has captured our hearts with every pounding anthem, allowing us to turn off our minds and turn on our hearts to a new movement of electronic music that brings people together. Through their continuous success of chart topping progressive house releases to record breaking sold out shows from Madison Square Garden to the Los Angeles Historic Park, the Swedish House Mafia have announced their split but have managed to leave us with one more unforgettable experience to say goodbye to their loyal fans. Wobble Wednesday: Zeds Dead – Hot Sauce EP

With the plethora of big releases since the start of 2013, it was only time before the ever so popular duo, Zeds Dead, put out a compilation of originals on an EP for our listening pleasure. Zeds Dead have always taken the dive into different genres, but this EP titled, Hot Sauce, ventures into a very experimental territory, perfectly suited for a release on Mad Decent. The EP kicks off with the dark and wobble filled track titled, “Demons” which features excerpts from classic horror films. The ensuing song is the rather liquid and bouncy song, “Playa” which is followed by the minimal and groovey synth packed number called, “Mr. Sub”. For fans of fast UK rooted breakbeat pieces, “Rave” is for you! The last song on this 5 track EP titled, “Trouble” really catches my ear and definitely has a lot of that Zeds Dead recognizable flare we’ve grown to love. All of these songs are sure to add some extra vivacity to the duo’s already exhilarating live performance. With each song being so unique and containing it’s own pizzazz, they each represent a unique flavor that serves as an ingredient in this Hot Sauce, which will be your favorite?

Review: Resolution Seattle, WA

Five, four, three, two, one. Happy New Year! Seattle, Washington raged into the wee hours of New Year’s morning to celebrate the incoming of year 2013. The white and gold themed party attracted approximately 9,000 ravers to Wamu Theater, Seattle’s home to all massive raves. The electronic music celebration hosted two stages appropriately named “Time Capsule” and  ”Enchanted Forest”. Ticking LED clocks surrounded the main stage, preparing ragers for the final minutes of 2012 and the beginning of a New Year. The entire night was a succession of one amazing DJ after another. Audrey Napoleon, one of the only female performers of the evening, threw down a killer set at the Time Capsule and raged just as hard to the music as the thousands of people in front of her. Trapping the night out at the Enchanted Forest was superstar UZ, who’s face and voice remain unknown. The masked genius engaged an hour long session of heavy bass beats that inspired hundreds to twerk their brains out. Back at the main stage, LA Riots successfully kept the electro tracks flowing and was followed by fellow electro producers Cazzette. The duo rocked their infamous LED cassette tape helmets and displayed messaged to the crowd through their head gear.

Review: WOBBLELAND 2012

Wobbleland 2011was voted the best North American dubstep event of the year, and for good reason. With a massive lineup and a skull rattling system, it truly raised the bar for dubstep shows on the west coast. So needless to say Wobbleland 2012 had some big shoes to fill right off the bat, and in our opinion, they succeeded; for the most part. Overall the show was fantastic, but there were a few things that definitely could have improved the night, but well get to those later.
