Deadmau5 & Kat Von D – Satellite (DEMO) [Preview]

The legendary couple is just full of surprises, aren’t they? Joel Zimmerman and Kat Von D have teamed up to produce “Satellite”, Deadmau5′s newest chilled out track with the unexpectedly talented vocalism of LA Ink’s finest. It starts out with a very ambient and melodic intro, demonstrating Joel’s prowess of theory and synth work. As it progresses, Kat’s singing compliments the instrumentals, as well as its rising tension, as it sweeps into a minimalistic half-step switch up. Although, the track was released in its rough draft form, we should expect some big things from this mix. Possible remixes and the inevitable bootlegs seem to be running through my mind of what’s to come. Respect to Kat Von D for her vocal skills and Joel for his ever adapting sound; these two have definitely earned some brownie points in my book.

HTDA – Ice Age (Deadmau5 Remix)

This article is written specifically for anyone who has ever doubted Joel Zimmerman. Deadmau5 may be the ultimate criticizer as well as the most criticized DJ in the biz, but one thing is for sure, this guy has never followed mainstream dance music. While his style has evolved and changed throughout his career, he continues on his own path of artistic ingenuity and innovation. This new remix that we present you, I would not say is atypical of Deadmau5 to produce but definitely unlike most of the tracks you might have heard from him. Reflecting Joel’s softer side comes “Ice Age”, a beautifully well produced track with amazing percussion, melody, and rhythm; sounds a lot like Massive Attack. This is a clear demonstration that producers such as Deadmau5 are not defined by bpm.

Deadmau5 – > album title goes here <

> album title goes here <, Joel Zimmerman’s follow up album to 4 x 4 = 12, is difficult to fully embody with any other word than “sophisticated”. In the time since his last album, Deadmau5 has become a very prominent figure in music news and culture, landing the cover of Rolling Stone and causing an immense stir when voicing his feelings about the technicality of live electronic performance. However, with the release of > album title  goes here <, it is clear that his ability in the studio is what has defined him as one of the elite artists amongst his peers.

The opening track on the album, ‘Superliminal’, is a clear display of Joel’s signature complex and unorthodox synth work. ‘Channel 42′ was produced along side Wolfgang Gartner and the track’s electro stylings are similar to that of their last track, ‘Animal Rights’, with a slightly more melodic vibe. With Gerard Way (lead singer of My Chemical Romance) on ‘Professional Griefers’, Imogeon Heap providing soothing vocals to ‘Telemiscommunications’, and ‘Failbait’ featuring rap group Cyprus Hill, Deadmau5 displays the diverse abilities that along side impeccable production quality have come to define his music. The collection of diverse and unique tracks that make up this album show that Deadmau5 is not one to be restrained by the all too common industry standards and truly make this his best work to date.

Deadmau5 Taking a Breather

Just this past weekend, Joel Zimmerman, more internationally known as legendary producer, Deadmau5, posted on his personal Tumblr the humbling news that he shall ‘unplug for a wee bit’. The icon says no gigs will be cancelled, and he claims he has ‘something crazy [coming] real soon’. Although he is very ambiguous as to what he will be temporarily halting, we’re sure that some quiet time will only spark even wilder ideas. Stay tuned for more updates!

Deadmau5 Almost Sets Himself, Club on Fire

As if being a superstar DJ wasn’t enough, Joel Zimmerman, known by the world as Deadmau5, almost burnt down a crowd at a club he played at (including model Hillary Rhoda and singer Ciara). I guess Joel should have left the Pyrotechnics to the professionals and stick to what he does best: make music and give out Skrillex’s phone number. Epic Failmau5.
