SFX Entertainment Expands Their EDM Industry Reign With The Purchase of Beatport

sillerman-billboard-cover-650px

Robert F.X. Sillerman is the man behind SFX Entertainment and he is on a mission to become the undisputed ruler of the EDM industry. SFX has purchased event production companies Disco Donnie Presents and Life In Color, and invested in several Miami nightclubs. SFX has also entered into a joint venture with ID&T, the company behind Tomorrowland, Sensation and Energy among others.

Today, a New York Times article revealed that SFX has invested in another massive company in the EDM industry with its recent purchase of dance music online store Beatport. Sources say that SFX purchased Beatport for a little over $50 million. The CEO of Beatport said that SFX will allow Beatport to expand business to a wider audience and into new sectors like event production. Sillerman’s quest to buy EDM is a stark example that electronic music has moved out of the underground and people like Sillerman are working overtime to cash in. The question that no one can answer is how the shift to big business will change EDM long term.

Interview: Eric Prydz

There are so many artists in the world of dance music these days, but one of them stands alone. The artist we are talking about is Eric Prydz. Since day one Eric has stayed true to himself, true to his nature and has become an icon by following his own beat instead of others. It doesn’t matter if he’s producing under his real name or one of his other famous aliases like Cirez D or Pryda. At the end of the day, he evokes emotion and tells a story with every production he puts out. Not many people can juggle originality while being in the mainstream scene and he does it with ease. With countless mainstream and underground tracks, the man is known as a musical genius and not only has an extremely large mainstream audience, but a massive underground following as well. Reigning from Sweden and now currently living in Los Angeles, Prydz continues to be known as the king of originality. It was a true honor to interview the man himself and we will remember this one for a very long time to come. Check it out after the jump!

Interview: Rednek

This Wobble Wednesday, we have a very special treat for the lovers of bass! We had the privilege of getting in touch overseas with UK’s beloved and charismatic speaker slayer, Rednek, to get an exclusive interview with the Jamaican-raised music making wonder. With two decades of production and first hand vision at the evolution of music under his belt, the name Rednek was embraced in 2011, and his plan of execution was evident. By completely self creating many sarcastic and entertaining videos that have turned him into a YouTube viral sensation, including, “How to Become a Dubstep Artist in One Month”, “I’m Not Skrillex”, and “They Call Me”, Rednek got his name out there and did it expeditiously. Fast forward to 2013 and Rednek has established himself as a genuine guy with a great sense of humor who knows how to cause absolute mayhem upon hitting the decks in a live performance. Oh yeah, how could we forget about his massive hits that sometimes even include his own vocals? A true musician and a stand up guy, something that goes unnoticed too often. Rather than asking him the obvious, I wanted to get inside the mind of Rednek and expose his true colors. Grab his brand new album 50 Shades of Red on Beatport and check out his instant classics on his clever YouTube channel. Continue on after the jump to see our full interview with Rednek.

Interview: Max Cooper

We have posted about Max Cooper a few times now and we finally got to interview the guy we have been keeping our eye on. His music ranges from glitchy renditions of big bands like Hot Chip to dance floor tunes like his “Serie” originals and has done remixes for artists like Agoria, Pig & Dan, and Sasha. Unlike most artists in the industry now, Cooper is as comfortable writing abstract electronic music as well as producing dance floor techno for the clubs. “A rationalist with an otherworldly, idealistic side, Cooper is also a wildly creative musician who until recently had a day job as a sober scientist”. Check out the interview with this unique and artistic musician after the jump! [Read more...]

Interview: Sandro Silva

It seems like each day another Dutch superstar is born. I don’t know if the

re is something in the water over there, but the talent level in the Netherlands is not something to be overlooked. Just take Sandro Silva for example. The guy has always been a powerful force as both a DJ and producer, but it was not until recently that some massive hits took him to the next level of EDM dominance. His breakout track with Quintino, “Epic”, has been one of the biggest songs in recent memory having been played by just about every DJ on just about every stage across the globe. We were recently lucky enough to catch up with the next big Dutchman and ask him a few questions, so continue on to see what he had to say.
