Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky (Radio Edit)

daft-punk-get-lucky-612x612

“We’re up all night to the sun. We’re up all night to get some. We’re up all night for good fun. We’re up all night to get lucky.” If you haven’t read these words on any social media outlet, or haven’t heard them uttered from Pharrell’s majestic voice then you’re seriously missing out! Daft Punk’s first single off their new album Random Access Memories is the funky jam, “Get Lucky.” What can be better than Pharrell and Daft Punk forming a band and singing about sex? Nothing, is the correct answer. The French duo recently said that EDM wasn’t changing, wasn’t moving, and wasn’t making any progress, so why not add some real instruments? The feedback has been extremely better than Avicii’s take on adding live instruments to an electronic genre. Daft Punk’s natural ability to create music that everyone wants to listen to will forever be their signature. Check out the release below, press repeat, and patiently wait for the rest of the album. Cheers!

Rudimental – Waiting All Night EP

Waiting All Night

While the Disclosure brothers have been bringing house music back to the forefront of the UK music scene, the Rudimental quartet has been looking to do the same with drum & bass; the group’s single “Feel The Love” topped the charts in the UK and drew a lot of attention earlier this year. With the group gearing up to release their debut album Home on the 29th, they’ve released yet another EP. “Waiting All Night”, Home’s third single, is truly a pleasure for drum & bass fans, featuring the intense, fast breaks and soulful vocals that we’ve come to love from Rudimental. Despite my obsession with the group’s drum & bass, this EP showcases that they are quite willing to defy categorization; “Baby” pulls off a groovy, soulful house surprisingly well, and the remixes included on the EP definitely aren’t the standard fare. A nice surprise is Skream’s remix of “Hell Could Freeze”, which really showcases the artist’s shift from his old dubstep days into the house and disco styles; the remix is a lot of fun with its uplifting, funky sounds and earning the support of a veteran such as Skream is no small feat. We’ve included a selection of tracks below so check them out, and keep your eyes open for the album later on this month!

Justin Jay – Static EP

7184136
The 19-year old deep house prodigy is at it again with his new and 3rd release on Dirtybird Records. Justin Jay has made two completely killer tracks with ‘SoCal Soul’ and ‘NorCal Swagger’. The first track, “Static”, is heavy, with its crunchy bassline and drum kit feels. The second track, “Waves”, is more for the mellow types but nonetheless a very well composed tune with a nice melody and some beautiful pads.

Daddy’s Groove & Cyrogenix – Tilt (Original Mix)

tiltReady for some DMX infused electro house? Daddy’s Groove and Cyrogenix have teamed up to produce “Tilt”, a sickeningly good track with a massive transition into clean, electro grime. The track begins with an outstanding beat, robotic synths, and then is layered with a melody reminiscent of a video game. “Tilt” builds with energy and DMX can be heard shouting “can’t stop won’t stop”, and other DMXesque words. Winding sirens are audible in the sound layer beneath the vocals until “Tilt” reaches the capacity of its build and drops into a filthy electro break that will literally make your jaw drop to the floor. A pure drum beat and those same robotic synths; it’s really that good. “Tilt” by Daddy’s Groove and Cyrogenix is out now on Beatport, you do not want to miss out on this track.

Markus Schulz – Progressive Warmup Mix Spring 2013

markus-schulz

Does the legendary Markus Schulz ever disappoint? Absolutely not. What better way to mellow out after a long weekend than kick back and listen to this melodic mix consisting of some of the “deeper and more progressive tracks” that Schulz has recently been digging. After recording this in between his appearances at Miami’s Winter Music Conference and ASOT 600 at Madison Square Garden, this mix continues to illustrate the diversity of true musicians. Though showing sincere differences from any of his live performances, it’s great to see big artists such as Markus Schulz protruding to deeper routes. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Will Sparks – The Viking (Original Mix) [Preview]

artworks-000045051094-vt030o-original

Ahh, it’s such a sad feeling when a new and good song’s preview ends just as you’re getting into it. That’s exactly what happened with Will Sparks’ new track “The Viking,” which isn’t released until April 19th. Keeping his usual dutch-y style, Sparks adds a little more grungy bass to the drop, and a bit more melody in the breakdown. Yet in his own special way is able to keep his unique sound, and somehow create the best synths and use them in the best fashion. Check out the preview below and make sure to get the single when it comes out! Cheers!

Show Review: MAKJ at Avalon Hollywood

483565_455554394521836_1410618477_n

As my friends and I arrived to the Avalon in Hollywood, the time was 10:30 p.m. and the line was already down the block. The energy was high with the usual eccentric personalities strolling down Hollywood Blvd, and the glow in people’s faces screamed, “we’re here and ready to dance.” While most club goers thought they were going to be dancing the night away to world sensation Italian duo, Nari and Milani, it was DJ MAKJ who stole the show. Riva Starr feat. DJ Sneak – In Da House Tonight (Original Mix)

7155042

The Legend DJ Sneak joins international DJ Riva Starr to provide the vocals for this groovy house track that takes you back to a time when disco ruled the dance floors. This is a funky anthem with tribal beats and full of house loops and samples. “In Da House Tonight” is an homage to the Gold Age of house music with DJ Sneak himself talking about house music and sweaty listeners packing the nightclubs and warehouses. Toolroom head honcho, Mark Knight, coined this one of the biggest tracks of 2013 and rightfully so. He is just among many huge names that have praised this beautiful production. This track will be featured on Riva Starr’s anticipated album Bateria Fantastica and is released on his very own Snatch! Records.
