Flashback Friday: Junior Jack – Da Hype (Original Club Mix)

When I heard this track the other day, it gave me a great flashback of that old school house feeling that is just like none other. The house legend Junior Jack’s “Da Hype” is not one to forget about when moving further into the future of EDM. This track has that classic synth melody from the old days, similar to that of Daft Punk, which you’ll hear when you give it a listen. The song also includes some live mixing effects that make it perfect for dropping at any club to get people moving. Blast this one out on some nice speakers and feel free to groove wherever you may be. Enjoy!

Flashback Friday: Basshunter – Russia Privjet (Original Mix)

With over a decade of experience, six complete albums, and a European Border Breakers Award (EBBA), it’s safe to say Basshunter is recognized globally as a world renowned DJ/producer. It’s hard to say what anyones favorite Basshunter song is, because we’ve grown to love and appreciate the diverse range of songs he has constructed over the years. For most, “Boten Anna” and “Now Your Gone” are the songs of choice and recognized as the most famous Basshunter songs. However, I personally can’t hear the name Basshunter without thinking of the legendary line, “Russia, throw your hands up in the air”! Which is why I chose his 2006 classic off of his LOL <(^^,)> album, “Russia Privjet” as the first Flashback Friday song of 2013. For those who haven’t heard this customary anthem, prepare for this mythical Swedish hardstyle to succumb and overtake your speakers. For those who are familiar, you are welcome for the refresher and we hope this song brings back some great memories for you like it does for us. Have a great weekend and stay safe Techi Fans!

Flashback Friday: Deadmau5 – Not Exactly (Original Mix)

I’m willing to bet you’ve heard about Deadmau5 and the reputation he has made for himself in the electronic dance community. He’s been a well-known player in electronic music for years, gracing the cover of Rolling Stone and winning several awards for his tracks. Known for his opinionated rants and outspokenness on Twitter, he still is every bit the musician he started out to be. In just a few years, Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, has risen up in the electronic producer ranks at lightning speed. One of his first tracks, “Not Exactly,” is a perfect example of his early style — simple, stripped down progressive house that takes your breath away. The ‘Best Single’ Beatport award winner in 2008, “Not Exactly” is a crucial anthem of the past decade, and it’s important to respect the legacy that Deadmau5 has left behind. I personally will never give up hope that he’ll make an epic comeback.

Flashback Friday: Bob Marley & The Wailers – 400 Years (Jimpster Remix)

Not only is today’s track a flashback for the Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “400 Years”, but also for this amazing remix Jimpster did of the track back in 2007. These days you often hear remixes of Bob Marley tracks that either aren’t done so well, or are never under the house genre. However, with deep house/minimal legend Jimpster on remix duties, you know it is going to be something like you’ve never heard before. His remix of “400 Years” is a very minimal dub track that has a groovy reggae bassline alongside a house beat. Incorporating some original elements such as percussion drums, horns, and vocal samples, this track has just the right amount of original flavor in it to keep you interested. Give this classic a listen and enjoy!

Flashback Friday: Paul Van Dyk feat. Hemstock & Jennings – Nothing But You (Original Mix)

Here’s a flashback from trance pioneer Paul Van Dyk, with his highly successful track “Nothing But You” off of the 2003 album Reflections. The album was a huge moment for electronic music, since it marked the first time that the new category “Best Dance/Electronic Album” was introduced at the Grammy Awards. It’s epic songs like these that separate the older underground phase of electronic music and show the emergence of dance into the mainstream. “Nothing But You” has that classic trance sound that makes you feel like you’re flying and was inspired by the DJ’s recent trip to India prior to making the album.

Flashback Friday: Massive Attack – Teardrop (Original Mix)

Known as one of the biggest classics of our day, Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” is one of the most worthy Flashback Friday tracks we could ever post. Dating back to 1998, “Teardrop” has been featured on numerous TV shows and movies, as well as plenty remixes and bootlegs. It has a very chill feel to it along with some soothing vocals by Elizabeth Fraser. We also included a bonus track, which is by far the biggest and most epic reinterpretations of the track. After Bart Claessen & Tom Fall’s bootleg of this track was featured on Above & Beyond’s Essential Mix last year, which won Essential Mix of the Year, it was known as THE track of the summer, if not the year. The synth melody just takes you in and puts you on a musical journey that is indescribable. We’ll let the track speak for itself and let you listen to it. Enjoy!

Flashback Friday: Kerli – Walking On Air (Armin Van Buuren Remix)

Just in time for Halloween weekend, I bring to you one of my favorite Armin Van Buuren remixes, originally released in 2008. The original song by Kerli is an eerie story, but I love the trancey dancey Armin flavor on it. I know that’s not much of a flashback but I just love this track and think it’s got that perfect creepy sound to get you in the mood for the Halloween festivities. Break out those costumes and put this on your Halloween party pregame mix.

Flashback Friday: Chemical Brothers BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 3-5-1995

Damnnn we are going way back. We’ve got some major 90′s beats for you on this Flashback Friday. I take you to March 5th, 1995, when Biggie Smalls was still alive and old-school hip-hop was at at its peak. Picture the Chemical Brothers in Pete Tong’s recording studio, ripping it up on their vinyl turntables. The British duo were pioneers in bringing the “big beat” movement — that is, the use of repetitive synthesizer loops — into the forefront of popular culture. The buildups, drops, and crazy basslines that have become the standard of today’s electronic music were made popular by these guys. What’s more, the radio was incredibly more prevalent then. In the middle of the DJ set, the music is interrupted by a breaking news report. What a trip, right? Take a moment for this piece of history and pay respect to the origins of the electronic music we know and love today. It truly is a slice of the past and I am still reveling in the novelty of it. Ya feel me?

Flashback Friday: Don Rimini – Let Me Back Up (Crookers Remix)

Love them or hate them, Crookers have always been a group that keeps it real. Their music is super fun, delivering weird bouncy sounds into your ears that make you wanna go crayyyyzee. “Let Me Back Up” is the kind of track that gives me flashbacks to those first few shows I went to when I started getting into electronic music. Ah, the memories. I was compelled by the sounds and how oddly amazing they were. Hope you enjoy this Flashback Friday track originally released in 2008 by none other than Italian electro duo Crookers. If you’re not awake yet, give this a listen…YOU WILL BE.

Flashback Friday: Tiesto – Adagio For Strings (Original Mix)

Ahhh, there’s nothing quite like some nice old-fashioned Tiesto. Adagio For Strings, originally released in 2005 (7 years ago!), was one of the first Tiesto tracks I ever heard. It truly is a masterpiece from start to finish, featuring elements of classical music entertwined with those unmistakable hard hitting techno/trance beats. The buildups and drops are beautifully crafted and I honestly don’t hear stuff like this that often anymore. It’s a classic track that will take you back and remind you why he’s arguably the number one DJ of all time.
