coachellapresale

Just as we were finally done unwinding, unpacking and overcoming those Coachella blues, Goldenvoice puts the manic in Monday, delivering us faithful patrons with dates and advanced sale information for the 2014 festival. The three-day music and art festival will continue over two consecutive weekends; Weekend 1 during April 11th-13th and Weekend 2, April 18th- 20th .  Thankfully, we can put all those rumors of Coachella leaving the Empire Polo Field home base to rest, as Goldenvoice announced earlier this year that the southern California festival is here to stay in Indio. Advanced ticket sales begin this Friday, May 24th 2013 at 10 AM PDT with a payment plan option available to those hesitant to open their wallets just yet! 16 Bit Lolitas – Chant A Tune / Deep Space Girls (Remixes)

16bit

Crossed between a few groovy and progressive chords with melodies consisting of a deep and dreamy sound, the original work of 16 Bit Lolitas has evolved into a more complex yet smooth rework that resembles the diverse sound of everything from FC Kahuna to Booka Shade. It is two remixes mastered by Jeremy Olander and DAVI that I already have on repeat and fans of a more mature and original sound can check out on 16 Bit Lolitas’ label Bits & Pieces today! Julio Bashmore – Battle For Middle You (Jim Rivers Future Bristol Boogie Re Rub) [Free Download]

JimRivers

When I think of the best in deep house of 2011, Julio Bashmore’s afterhours anthem is what comes to mind. Infused with its deep bassline and repetitive chant that resembles the likes of a disco melody, “Battle For Middle You” has our feet stomping along with the vocals each time it hits the dance floor. UK’s Jim Rivers has cooked up a special rework that compliments the original with his underground tech sound that gives Bashmore’s a run for its money. Enjoy the free download below!

Odysseus – Hit It Again EP [Preview]

One of my favorite labels nowadays is Jaymo & Andy George’s Black Moda. So when I see a new Black Moda release, I get chills before I even have a chance to listen to it and Odysseus does not disappoint with his newest works. Rhythmic and sensual are Odysseus’s game; gotta love this guy’s style. Unfortunately this is just a preview, but we will keep you all posted with a link once this jem hits stores.

Rudimental – Waiting All Night EP

Waiting All Night

While the Disclosure brothers have been bringing house music back to the forefront of the UK music scene, the Rudimental quartet has been looking to do the same with drum & bass; the group’s single “Feel The Love” topped the charts in the UK and drew a lot of attention earlier this year. With the group gearing up to release their debut album Home on the 29th, they’ve released yet another EP. “Waiting All Night”, Home’s third single, is truly a pleasure for drum & bass fans, featuring the intense, fast breaks and soulful vocals that we’ve come to love from Rudimental. Despite my obsession with the group’s drum & bass, this EP showcases that they are quite willing to defy categorization; “Baby” pulls off a groovy, soulful house surprisingly well, and the remixes included on the EP definitely aren’t the standard fare. A nice surprise is Skream’s remix of “Hell Could Freeze”, which really showcases the artist’s shift from his old dubstep days into the house and disco styles; the remix is a lot of fun with its uplifting, funky sounds and earning the support of a veteran such as Skream is no small feat. We’ve included a selection of tracks below so check them out, and keep your eyes open for the album later on this month!

Show Review: MAKJ at Avalon Hollywood

483565_455554394521836_1410618477_n

As my friends and I arrived to the Avalon in Hollywood, the time was 10:30 p.m. and the line was already down the block. The energy was high with the usual eccentric personalities strolling down Hollywood Blvd, and the glow in people’s faces screamed, “we’re here and ready to dance.” While most club goers thought they were going to be dancing the night away to world sensation Italian duo, Nari and Milani, it was DJ MAKJ who stole the show. Coachella 2013: 15 Electronic acts you can’t miss and why

Coachella

The final countdown has begun and nothing makes us more antsy than knowing only a few more days of school work stand between us and our unofficial “holiday weekend.”  Last week, the city of Indio granted approval for Goldenvoice to extend their annual music festivals on the polo fields through 2030 and also expand to hold 15,000 more attendees by next year. As loyal Coachella fans rejoice over the news, we couldn’t be more excited to return to the holy land. By now we’re checking off what to pack and who to see, aside from mentally preparing for the heat waves that await us, BUT before we hit the road…we leave you with one more cheat sheet to festival success!

TÂCHES – Don’t You Know [Free Download]

artworks-000044390750-hutrw8-crop

To be honest, this track caught me by surprise. With its swung rhythm and vocal chops, I was expecting a more soothing drop similar to that of the re-developing deep/UK house scene. Instead I was treated to a genre-blended smasher. TÂCHES has taken elements from across the board and made something completely their own. Big ups TÂCHES, or so it goes. As courtesy of Annie Mac’s weekly, FREE MUSIC MONDAYS, this track is up for grabs. Go ahead and grab your digital copy now.

Network – Somebody [Preview]

avatars-000027973962-brvrcv-crop
The United Kingdom seems to be quite the hotspot for young, up and coming house producers nowadays. With the sudden revival of 90s house, producers across the globe including Skream and Kaskade are hopping back into the deep house grooves. One of the more notable artists I have come across though is Network. Otherwise known as Oli Johns, Network is a 17 year old producer with a knack for keeping my ears in a vice. His newest track, titled “Somebody” is a simple tune with a catchy melody and funky percussion. I am loving this one. Keep it up Oli. We will keep you all posted if he decides to release it.
