Chris Lake’s always been quite capable at pumping out hot house tracks with smooth, danceable beats, but lately he’s had a thing for progressive and electro stylings. His newest release “Ohh Shhh”, put out by the famous Ultra label, sees that experimentation come to fruition; “Ohh Shhh” combines Lake’s talent with deep, groovy beats with epic progressive house build ups and sharp electro synths. The British Electro House monster, Lazy Rich, has been pioneering and leading the genre since 2004. His signature Complextro sound has matured and has garnered critical acclaim over the years which is apparent in his latest single, “Insomnia,” coming off of Chris Lake’s red hot Rising Music Records. “Insomnia” is an incredibly beautiful vocal track, featuring the vocals of Chris Lake’s wife Gita Lake. Gorgeous grand piano chords are interwoven between Mrs. Lake’s lovely vocals and Lazy Rich’s wonderfully mastered drum beats. Then, just as the build up is about to reach it’s peak, Lazy Rich throws another surprise at us with a catchy, funky, and incredibly danceable electro bass drop rather then a gritty, electro banger of a drop that we’ve become accustomed to hearing from him. Then, the legend himself, John Dahlback adds his own musical genius to the song turning the beauty of Lazy Rich’s rendition into a darker, harder hitting progressive house version. The song begins with some moombahesque synths, and then switches over to a simple piano melody. The way “Black Thong” starts, one would think “Shit, another progressive house song.” That’s not saying that the opening chords are any less beautiful than other progressive songs, but I think it’s safe to say listeners want a little something more. BOOM. Chris Lake & Michael Woods delivered. The build up gives you subtle clues to suggest that the song is heading in different direction, which is what makes the track that much better. The house riff this duo adds completely changes the feel of this song, and it will definitely be the banger of upcoming shows.
