The Prodigy – The Fat Of The Land (Expanded Edition) (Album)

Yes!! When the Noisia remix of “Smack My Bitch Up” released way back in October, I knew it would be a long wait to get my hands on the full deluxe reissue of The Prodigy’s The Fat of the Land. It is finally here, and it was a very rewarding wait. For those of you who’ve never heard The Fat of the Land the first time around, now’s your chance to grab this seminal big beat album – still just as vicious and refreshing after all of these years. In addition to the classic tracks, the deluxe reissue includes six massive remixes by artists such as Major Lazer, Zeds Dead, and Noisia. We’ve included some highlights below, so check them out and grab the full release from Beatport.

Wizard & Ivory – Jack In A Box (Destroyers & Aggresivnes Remix)

We have featured many EDM genres on Techibeats, trying to reach every fan and sharing the best music possible for everyone. However, we have left out one genre that is still a bit underground in the industry – Breakbeat. This genre is very big in the U.K., having several radio shows on BBC Radio 1 featuring it all the time, such as the well known Annie Nightingale. The thing that is great about breakbeat, is it is always high energy and incorporating several production styles all in one massive tune. Here I have the profound remixers, Destroyers & Aggresivnes put their take on Wizard & Ivory’s “Jack In A Box”. Give this banger a listen and let us know what you think. Enjoy!

The Portland based production trio known as Triage is comprised of the integrated talents of Liar, Debt, and Seth Norman. Combined, they’re armed with 30 years of experience behind the decks and in the studio, in addition to a degree from the Berklee College of Music. Vandalism – Insane (Cold Blank Remix)

Cold Blank blasts a full on load of chainsaw bass directly into your face with their latest remix of Vandalism’s “Insane”. Chris Gaspar and Manny Luquin of Los Angeles, California, have been destroying dancefloors for the past few years as Cold Blank, utilizing heavy, sawtooth waveforms in their gritty basslines. In addition to having a remix contest of one of their more recent and original tracks, 2012, Cold Blank has been defining their sound by keeping their attention mainly focused on the bass elements of their tracks that they have become so closely affiliated with. Their take on “Insane” creates a new melodic riff over their underlying chainsaw bass that sits upfront in the mix, filter automation, and a half time break at 2:57.

Dub Police Tour

One of the founding fathers of what we refer to as Dubstep, Caspa, led the Dub Police tour at the show in downtown San Francisco at 103 Harriet. The show featured fellow artists Subscape and Trolley Snatcha although Trolley Snatcha was replaced by Matty G after he failed to appear for reasons unknown. Anyone who caught onto pre-Skrillex Dubstep knew what this was all about. The show featured UK Bass in its entirety, which focuses primarily on the lower register, sub bass elements that defined the Dubstep in the UK when pioneers Skream, Benga, Caspa, and Coki began experimenting with Garage some years ago before the higher and more extreme frequency sweeps of today’s heavy, American sound took over. Although Trolley Snatcha did not appear, the crowd was still riveted with the dark and deep bass that resonated throughout the room during Caspa’s performance. Subscape’s eerie, vibrato based melodies pulsating through the club with an intense force that could only be described as ominous, seemed to cause ripples in the crowd from the audio source. The energy was high and the tempo was low. The crowd was served filth, which is a dish best served cold and in the end they seemed to be well filled. Hats off to the crew on the Dub Police tour for their excellent performance.

Wobble Wednesday: Trolley Snatcha – Subtext EP

The legendary Dub Police is known for releasing music from artists who truly know how to bring a new sound to the table while not compromising their labels sound, which is focused mainly on the older UK Bass sound made popular by artists such as Skream, Rusko, and Coki, who are some of the earliest innovators of the Dubstep movement. The Dub Police keep the consistency with the latest release of Trolley Snatcha, who brings the heat with his dark and intense basslines and carefully structured synths. Trolley Snatcha, known mainly for his work in the field of Dubstep, ventures into unknown territory with Subtext EP, featuring “The Jungle,” an Electro House track on the EP, giving him more variety in his music as an artist.

Wobble Wednesday: Zero Method – Command Four (Original Mix)

Zero Method releases another high energy array of breakbeats in “Command Four”, currently topping the Drum & Bass Beatport charts on his Cold War EP. At a 175 bpm, “Command Four” focuses mainly on the drum processing and the gritty, dirty bass lines. Zero Method, from Hungary, founded his online radio station, mainly targeting an audience thirsty for breakbeats that relied on less complex synth structures and automation and worked more with solely the drums and the bass parts as opposed to more melodic riffs.
