Anjunabeats’ Statement to Will.I.Am

black-eyed-peas

Will.I.Pay? That is still the question. In the meantime, we have Anjunabeats’ official statement regarding Will.I.Am sampling Matt Zo & Arty’s track, “Rebound”. For those who are unaware, essentially here is what happened: Will.I.Am “collaborated” with Chris Brown to create the track, “Let’s Go”. When “Let’s Go” got leaked, by complete surprise to the world, it had a rather familiar sound as the track illegally sampled the 2011 anthem, “Rebound”. While the Anjunabeats family has remained quiet the past few weeks, they have officially released a statement regarding the fact. This is what they had to say:

“As has been widely reported, a large section of ‘Rebound’ was sampled on Will.i.am’s track…and this took place without the permission of Anjunabeats or Arty & Mat Zo.”

“Although Arty (but not Mat Zo) was credited in the sleeve notes, this is not the same as obtaining permission. To present someone else’s work as your own, you need to seek permission, agree terms and file paperwork, which has not happened in this case.

“We’ve remained silent on this issue until now but as a record label it is our obligation to protect our artists’ interests and we felt it was necessary to respond to some of the inaccuracies that have been reported following Will.i.am’s recent comments to Associated Press.

Flashback Friday: Arty & Misha Kitone – Inside Of Me (Original Mix)

365668

Today’s Flashback Friday tune is a track that I always listen back to, keeping it on all of my music listening devices because it is that good every time I hit play. Around the beginning of 2009 is right when I started to get into melodic progressive house, which is when this tune was released, and the young producer by the name of Arty caught my ear. His older production style when he was ~17 years old was exactly what I wanted to hear from progressive house and it is displayed beautifully in this track here. “Inside Of Me” is a simple, captivating song that takes control of you with the symphonic and keyboard melodies throughout. It’s amazing to think where Arty was in his career when he produced this gem and look at where he is now – a complete breakthrough artist that found success and has changed his production style drastically. Anyway, enjoy your Flashback Friday and have a great weekend!

Will.i.am. Admits to Using Arty and Mat Zo’s “Rebound” Without Permission

will.i.am-willpower-2013-1500x1500

The release of will.i.am’s new album #willpower was met with some controversy last week as the Grammy award winning artist was caught by the EDM community for heavily sampling Arty and Mat Zo’s song “Rebound” without their permission in his single with Chris Brown entitled, “Let Go.” He finally got the chance to sit down with Kiss FM to explain his actions: Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to Rebound this last year. I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him…but something happened and hopefully we can resolve the issue. It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys. I contacted them last year and we’re fixing it now. It appears that will.i.am’s intentions were not as malicious as we had first assumed; nonetheless, justice shall be served and Arty, Mat Zo, and Anjunabeats will receive the credit and compensation they deserve. The most interesting thing about this whole fiasco was the reaction that it received from the EDM community via Twitter, Facebook, other news outlets, and word of mouth. It seemed like everyone was talking about what happened and will.i.am went from being a friend to a foe to a fool in a mere day for thinking we wouldn’t recognize the illegal use of “Rebound.” It just goes to show that the world is a lot smaller nowadays and that dance music lovers from around the globe will always bind together to protect the integrity of our music and of our artists.

Will.i.am “Let’s Go” New Single Controversy

will.i.am-willpower-2013-1500x1500

The newest release “Let’s Go” off of will.i.am’s upcoming #willpower album came with an unpleasant surprise – particularly for Arty and Mat Zo, who found that their collaboration “Rebound” was sampled without any heads up whatsoever. This is far from the first accusation will.i.am has faced for unauthorized sampling, having experienced troubles with Boys Noize, Deadmau5, and a variety of other artists in the past. The crew over at Anjunabeats (Arty, Mat Zo, and label founder Jono Grant) have voiced their concerns over Twitter and Facebook, but at the same time they’re likely preparing for a heavenly payday. Take a listen to the two tracks below and see what all the fuss is about (if you’re having trouble, I recommend skipping to 3:25 in “Rebound”). So far will.i.am has yet to comment, but we’ll keep you updated.

Trance Tuesday: Arty feat. Chris James – Together We Are (Remixes)

Arty - Together We Are Techi

The best thing about a remix EP is being able to listen to one of your favorite songs being played five different ways. In this case, The M Machine, Audien, CLMD, and Whiiite apply their own take on Arty’s wildly successful collaboration with Chris James, “Together We Are” off of Big Beat Records. The original, as is exemplified in the provided instrumental mix, is massive in itself displaying everything we love about dance music: emotion, feel good vibes, and fun. The remixes have taken the canvass of which Arty himself created and have tweaked his masterpiece to combine their own styles. The M Machine lends their mechanical electro sound to the song, Audien adds his own unique trance twist to the mix, CLMD adds even more beauty with his own progressive house take on the song, and Whiiite turns up the energy with his own hard hitting electro remix. Each remix adds something wonderful to the already amazing, “Together We Are” and they will give you an excuse to keep the song on repeat. Take a listen below and get the party started with Arty’s Together We Are Remixes.

Arty’s new track “Together We Are” has proven to be a huge hit among the dance world, charting to the top 5 tracks on Beatport recently. Right when we thought the original mix wasn’t enough, there are three new remixes on their way for an official release! I honestly didn’t see this one coming, especially from some of the artists that are remixing this beautiful, uplifting progressive house track. Those being a big room house remix by Audien, very unique electro house-ish remix from The M Machine, and a feel-good progressive remix from CLMD. The whole remix package is due to release on Beatport via Big Beat Records March 18th. Be sure to check back then and enjoy!

Spotlight: Evan Duffy

Evan-Duffy

In the past few months, Evan Duffy has gained a lot of attention on YouTube for his piano covers of popular dance tracks. Although he does not produce electronic music himself, he has become embraced in the community for his keen ability to recreate originally synthesized music and has even garnished the attention of several popular producers who frequently use his covers in their sets. In my mind, Evan Duffy’s transcription of electronic music helps shine an important light on the musical elements of the genre in a more traditional sense. It not only reveals a deeper beauty in the music, but also reveals a different side of the music to both non-believers and lovers of EDM alike. Luckily, I had a chance to catch up with Evan (who happens to be an incredibly genuine guy) to ask him a few questions, and this is what he had to say:
