Above & Beyond: Acoustic Set Coming Soon

942070_10151407991221629_116776921_n

What better way to start off Trance Tuesday than with this picture featured above posted on the Above & Beyond Facebook page? This is all the news and clues we have for you right now, but this wouldn’t be the first time the trio ditched their studio equipment and replaced it with live instruments. In the video I’ve posted below, we see as A&B went on a hot air balloon trek with Virgin Balloon Flights and performed an acoustic set alongside vocalist Zoe Johnston. This was a very intimate and exclusive opportunity and it’s absolutely beautiful to see the passionate & emotional trance sounds and formations be translated and delivered in an truly live acoustic format. We couldn’t be more excited to see what Jono, Paavo, and Tony have up their sleeves for this innovative project that is “coming soon”. We will keep you updated with all information regarding this monumental proposal.

Anjunabeats’ Statement to Will.I.Am

black-eyed-peas

Will.I.Pay? That is still the question. In the meantime, we have Anjunabeats’ official statement regarding Will.I.Am sampling Matt Zo & Arty’s track, “Rebound”. For those who are unaware, essentially here is what happened: Will.I.Am “collaborated” with Chris Brown to create the track, “Let’s Go”. When “Let’s Go” got leaked, by complete surprise to the world, it had a rather familiar sound as the track illegally sampled the 2011 anthem, “Rebound”. While the Anjunabeats family has remained quiet the past few weeks, they have officially released a statement regarding the fact. This is what they had to say:

“As has been widely reported, a large section of ‘Rebound’ was sampled on Will.i.am’s track…and this took place without the permission of Anjunabeats or Arty & Mat Zo.”

“Although Arty (but not Mat Zo) was credited in the sleeve notes, this is not the same as obtaining permission. To present someone else’s work as your own, you need to seek permission, agree terms and file paperwork, which has not happened in this case.

“We’ve remained silent on this issue until now but as a record label it is our obligation to protect our artists’ interests and we felt it was necessary to respond to some of the inaccuracies that have been reported following Will.i.am’s recent comments to Associated Press.

Will.i.am. Admits to Using Arty and Mat Zo’s “Rebound” Without Permission

will.i.am-willpower-2013-1500x1500

The release of will.i.am’s new album #willpower was met with some controversy last week as the Grammy award winning artist was caught by the EDM community for heavily sampling Arty and Mat Zo’s song “Rebound” without their permission in his single with Chris Brown entitled, “Let Go.” He finally got the chance to sit down with Kiss FM to explain his actions: Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to Rebound this last year. I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him…but something happened and hopefully we can resolve the issue. It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys. I contacted them last year and we’re fixing it now. It appears that will.i.am’s intentions were not as malicious as we had first assumed; nonetheless, justice shall be served and Arty, Mat Zo, and Anjunabeats will receive the credit and compensation they deserve. The most interesting thing about this whole fiasco was the reaction that it received from the EDM community via Twitter, Facebook, other news outlets, and word of mouth. It seemed like everyone was talking about what happened and will.i.am went from being a friend to a foe to a fool in a mere day for thinking we wouldn’t recognize the illegal use of “Rebound.” It just goes to show that the world is a lot smaller nowadays and that dance music lovers from around the globe will always bind together to protect the integrity of our music and of our artists.

Andrew Bayer – If It Were You, We’d Never Leave (Album)

Bayer

Andrew Bayer’s album If It Were You, We’d Never Leave just dropped today, and it was well worth the wait; for fans of mesmerizing, ethereal electronica and powerful, head-nodding beats, this album will satisfy with its 16 quality tracks (17 if you count the iTunes bonus track). Bayer isn’t an easy artist to categorize – his tracks more visual and exploratory than a lot of the drop- and chord-focused offerings that have largely taken over the electronic music scene here in America – but some core elements of his work include a rich, textured sound, layers of beautiful melodies, and an occasional funkiness. Take a listen to a selection of tracks below, and definitely check out the full release (I’d recommend the iTunes version, which is cheaper and comes with a bonus track).

Tuesday Trance Report: 110

110

Trance family around the world, welcome back to the 10th installment of our beloved Tuesday Trance Report. These past few weeks we’ve tried a different format of presenting our favorite high bpm melodies, but we’ve found that classic works best. So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as all of us here in the Techifam. Leading off we’re blessed with a free “rebuild” from Andrew Rayel titled ‘If I Lose My Space BOOM’. If you’ve been keeping up with Rayel, you know he’s been hitting 2013 with quite the splash as one of this year’s most promising up and comers. Next up, Ashley Wallbridge’s ‘Ying Yang’ has finally released to Gareth Emery’s record label, Garuda Music. Showing some similarities to his collaboration with Gareth himself on their classic track, ‘Mansion’, we can always expect a great piece of work from Mr. Wallbridge. Richard Durand then takes the spotlight with his minimalistic trance build in ‘TranceMatic’, which eventually builds into a beautiful, high energy synth melody. Then, on Armada sub label, A State of Trance, we have the 138 bpm madness of Sebastian Brandt’s ‘Paragon’. Last but not least, Store N Forward feature Hannah Ray’s emotional vocals on their latest original mix, ‘Hero’. We hope you all have a great week; tweet us @techibeats with your favorite tracks of this week’s TTR for a promised retweet!

Will.i.am “Let’s Go” New Single Controversy

will.i.am-willpower-2013-1500x1500

The newest release “Let’s Go” off of will.i.am’s upcoming #willpower album came with an unpleasant surprise – particularly for Arty and Mat Zo, who found that their collaboration “Rebound” was sampled without any heads up whatsoever. This is far from the first accusation will.i.am has faced for unauthorized sampling, having experienced troubles with Boys Noize, Deadmau5, and a variety of other artists in the past. The crew over at Anjunabeats (Arty, Mat Zo, and label founder Jono Grant) have voiced their concerns over Twitter and Facebook, but at the same time they’re likely preparing for a heavenly payday. Take a listen to the two tracks below and see what all the fuss is about (if you’re having trouble, I recommend skipping to 3:25 in “Rebound”). So far will.i.am has yet to comment, but we’ll keep you updated.

Andrew Bayer feat. Ane Brun – Lose Sight EP

Lose Sight

Andrew Bayer has released another track from his upcoming album If It Were You, We’d Never Leave, and it continues to showcase his masterful skill in mixing genres and creating beautiful, textured pieces. “Lose Sight” is a track that combines bumping hip hop beats with folksy guitar samples and upbeat piano melodies. As the song takes a moment to slow down and the blissful, otherworldly vocals start to creep in this track will truly send some chills down your spine. Take a listen to it below and also check out the excellent Ghosting Season remix of the track, which features a more minimalistic take on beats and layers of echoing electronics. The full album comes out on April 22nd, so keep your eyes open for more!

Trance Tuesday: Super8 & Tab – L.A. (Original Mix)

Super8 and tab - techi

The Finnish Trance super duo, Super8 & Tab, have finally released their latest single “L.A.” off of Above & Beyond’s powerhouse Anjunabeats label. The song was first showcased in Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats, Vol. 10 which reached huge success foreshadowing some of the hottest trance tracks of 2013, including “L.A.” I know from personal experience the love between Los Angeles/Orange County and Trance so it’s no surprise to me that Super8 & Tab would choose to name one of their most instrumentally emotional songs after this city. The track itself features the most beautiful of trance chords, the heaviest of trance bass lines, powerful synthesizer leads, and a melody that will get you moving to the sounds of, “L.A.” Enjoy!
