Flashback Friday: Kerli – Walking On Air (Armin Van Buuren Remix)

Just in time for Halloween weekend, I bring to you one of my favorite Armin Van Buuren remixes, originally released in 2008. The original song by Kerli is an eerie story, but I love the trancey dancey Armin flavor on it. I know that’s not much of a flashback but I just love this track and think it’s got that perfect creepy sound to get you in the mood for the Halloween festivities. Break out those costumes and put this on your Halloween party pregame mix.

Flashback Friday: Chemical Brothers BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 3-5-1995

Damnnn we are going way back. We’ve got some major 90′s beats for you on this Flashback Friday. I take you to March 5th, 1995, when Biggie Smalls was still alive and old-school hip-hop was at at its peak. Picture the Chemical Brothers in Pete Tong’s recording studio, ripping it up on their vinyl turntables. The British duo were pioneers in bringing the “big beat” movement — that is, the use of repetitive synthesizer loops — into the forefront of popular culture. The buildups, drops, and crazy basslines that have become the standard of today’s electronic music were made popular by these guys. What’s more, the radio was incredibly more prevalent then. In the middle of the DJ set, the music is interrupted by a breaking news report. What a trip, right? Take a moment for this piece of history and pay respect to the origins of the electronic music we know and love today. It truly is a slice of the past and I am still reveling in the novelty of it. Ya feel me?

John Digweed – Heaven Scent | iTunes

Released in late 1999 comes ‘Heaven Scent’, an absolute classic from legendary producer, John Digweed. When Digweed first arrived on the EDM scene, he began to draw listeners to new styles, sounds, and vibes. To this day, Digweed continues to push the limitations of EDM swagger and never stops raising the bar. Cheers to you, John Digweed.

Flashback Friday: Don Rimini – Let Me Back Up (Crookers Remix)

Love them or hate them, Crookers have always been a group that keeps it real. Their music is super fun, delivering weird bouncy sounds into your ears that make you wanna go crayyyyzee. “Let Me Back Up” is the kind of track that gives me flashbacks to those first few shows I went to when I started getting into electronic music. Ah, the memories. I was compelled by the sounds and how oddly amazing they were. Hope you enjoy this Flashback Friday track originally released in 2008 by none other than Italian electro duo Crookers. If you’re not awake yet, give this a listen…YOU WILL BE.

Flashback Friday: Tiesto – Adagio For Strings (Original Mix)

Ahhh, there’s nothing quite like some nice old-fashioned Tiesto. Adagio For Strings, originally released in 2005 (7 years ago!), was one of the first Tiesto tracks I ever heard. It truly is a masterpiece from start to finish, featuring elements of classical music entertwined with those unmistakable hard hitting techno/trance beats. The buildups and drops are beautifully crafted and I honestly don’t hear stuff like this that often anymore. It’s a classic track that will take you back and remind you why he’s arguably the number one DJ of all time.

For Flashback Friday today, I woke up feeling like getting down to some Jack Beats. One of my all time favorites to this day is their “Shutterbug” Remix by Big Boi that was never officially released. This is the kind of remix that can convert a hip-hop head to the EDM world. Play this song for them and they’ll want to get on the scene! Happy Flashback!

Flashback Friday: Pole Folder – Hollow (Robert Babicz Saturn Rings Remix)

This week’s Flashback Friday track is probably one of my favorites of all time, due to it just being too cool for it’s own good. Robert Babicz’s Saturn Rings Remix of Pole Folder’s “Hollow” is like nothing you’ve heard before. With the groovy tech beat in the background, TONS of elements are brought in to keep this track always progressing and keeping you intrigued. This tune almost has a dark mood to it, but gets slightly uplifted by the minimal vocals and driving beat. Sit back, relax, and give this one a play on some good speakers. Enjoy!

Flashback Friday: Armin Van Buuren – In And Out Of Love feat. Sharon Den Adel

Armin Van Buuren has been one of the few faces of Electronic Dance Music to withstand the test of time, continuing his undeniable prominence almost a decade after becoming a frontrunner in the scene. He is a truly inspiring figure in the community, not only for his one-of-a-kind production abilities and stage presence, but also for what he does behind the scenes. Despite the countless records and releases under his belt, none have been as impactful as his collaboration with Sharon Del Adel, “In And Out Of Love”. This track is the epitome of Trance, featuring a collection of piano-influenced synth patterns and some of the most beautiful vocals ever featured in EDM.
