Follow Up Interview With Robbie Rivera

We last spoke to Robbie Rivera before his massive performance in LA a couple months ago. We had the chance to catch up with him this week to see what he has been up to and how his Juicy Music World Tour has been going. The man is simply a genius and we feel extremely lucky to have been able to talk to him twice this year. Our reporters Logan Lawson and Taylor Wichman had the chance to interview him before his big performance at Elektricity Nightclub in Michigan this Friday. [Read more...]

PrototypeRaptor – Nostalgiarithm LP

One of the most underrated artists in the mix right now, PrototypeRaptor, has just completed his highly anticipated sophomore album, Nostalgiarithm, and it is a true masterpiece. Though slightly more mellow than his previous work, Nostalgiarithm features an array of incredibly well-produced tracks that cover a wide spectrum of sub-genres, shedding light on PrototypeRaptor’s exceptional production skill. The album starts off strong with the track “Timeless,” which was previously released as a single. This track opens into a very powerful and well composed piano riff, which reminds me slightly of a ragtime tune. The track opens up into a massive complextro drop while still maintaining a ‘feel good’ vibe. The album also has a harder side, for example, my personal favorite “Soul Trap.” This song drops into a hard-hitting electro chorus that would send any dance floor through the roof. The album caps off with “4:30 AM,” a very mellow, nostalgic dub track that really ties the album together. Overall this is an incredible album and PrototypeRaptor is letting it go for only $7 (plus optional donation). I highly suggest making the purchase HERE.

NITEPPL – CULT (Album)

San Francisco-based interstellar disco-opera act, NITEPPL, has finally released his full album CULT via Temple Music Group. Having remixed other San Francisco producers such as Manics and K Theory, Alton San Giovanni (NITEPPL) has gained a strong following in the underground dance music scene of the Bay Area. His 9-track album features an array of different BPMs and a seamless blend of genres. NITEPPL’s unique sense of good dance music makes this album worth your time. We appreciate that he makes music that he likes, rather than following a trend.

Diplo & Swick – Keep It Gully (Original Mix) [Preview]

Diplo is God and no one can argue with that. But who is Swick? The Melbourne native has less than 3000 likes on Facebook, but a collaboration with Diplo can only mean raw talent and the imminent rise to fame. And with good reason. The two have teamed up to create a jungle beat track called “Keep It Gully” which will be released to Mad Decent Premium members February 4th. The track features female vocals, a simple beat, and then a transition into bubbley, funky goodness. Patiently await for when the full song will be released, and more information on the mysterious Swick comes to light. We can only expect to hear more great things from the lad.

The Aston Shuffle vs. Tommy Trash vs. Tony Romera – Sunrise Pandor (Tommy Trash Edit) [Free Download]

I was lucky enough to hear this amazing track the first (and only) time I saw Tommy Trash. At HARD Day of the Dead this past November, Tommy Trash dropped “Sunrise Pandor” his personal edit of tracks produced The Aston Shuffle, himself, and Tony Romera. This banger begins with Tommy’s rework entitled “Sunrise”, which is an edit of the track “Wont Get Lost” originally by The Aston Shuffle. The song features lovely vocals from The Aston Shuffle, and Tommy’s unique electro synths that are so distinct, and are what made me fall in love with his production sound years ago. “Sunrise” builds with classic Tommy sounds, and just when you expect the original drop, “Pandor” by Tony Romera slaps you in the face with a flawlessly simple beat of pure grime. Tommy has graciously released this triple collaboration reworked by his brilliant Australian mind on his Soundcloud account as a free download. Hit the DL link through the player below. Enjoy!

Gregori Klosman – Serial Killer (Original Mix) [Preview]

Here is a preview of the latest production from French house genius Gregori Klosman. “Serial Killer” is so amazing it’s scary. The track is scheduled for official release February 25th, and will be the first release on Klosman’s newly founded label Guru Recordings. “Serial Killer” begins with a sample from the infamous theme song from the movie Halloween. Klosman throws in a fast paced beat beneath those oh so recognizable piano chords, and morphs the chilling melody into a house build. “One, two, three, JUMP!” will catch you off guard as the track drops into a super gnarly electro break. Klosman flawlessly transforms the entire track into an unexpected banger that I predict to be included in many major sets of 2013. Stream this spooky gem below and be sure to catch its release next month.
