Review: Avicii at Red Rocks

Avicii is currently embarking on his LE7ELS tour which is the first ever EDM arena tour. Last week he made a stop in Colorado to play at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison Colorado. Tim was accompanied by Cazzette and Swanky Tunes who both got to play 45 minute sets before Avicii’s set. For this LE7ElS tour he has a brand new, totally innovative stage and light show that consists of a very large blank face which has various visuals projected across it through out the show.

If you have never seen a show at Red Rocks it is something is difficult to describe. The venue is a natural amphitheater carved out of two massive rocks with the Denver skyline lit up in the background. As Cazzette and Swanky Tunes wrapped up there opening sets anticipation was high as eager fans awaited for Avicii to appear on the towering ominous face that is his stage. Soon Avicii took the stage, opening with the vocal intro edit of Levels leading into Fade Into Darkness, a sequence that has been a staple of his sets for some time now. Throughout the night he led the crowd through an awesome journey as he spun his best tracks, some unreleased stuff, as well as many other crowd favorites. He got the crowd roaring with bangers like Tommy Trash’s remix of Deadmau5′s ‘The Veldt’, Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Antidote’ into ‘Greyhound’, Third Party’s remix of ‘Otherside’ and pleased many of his fans with his older remix of Robyn’s ‘Hang With Me’. To no one’s surprise he played Levels at the end of his set, but caught many (including myself) off guard when he played his edit of the classic from Kernkraft, ‘Zombie Nation’, that had everyone in the crowd going absolutely nuts!

This show was the fourth time I have seen Avicii and it was hands down the best show I have seen him play. His skills as a DJ are developing, he is playing slightly more technical sets with more bootlegs and creativity. His light show was truly amazing and it really added that extra dimension to the show that made the night so special. Overall it was a great night and I highly suggest going to see an Avicii show during his LE7ELS tour.
