The Grout Tapes Vol. 1 – “In the Groove”

It’s hard to not draw a comparison between disco in the ’70′s and the explosion of EDM that we are seeing now. Both genres have the unique power to bring people together with the unified goal of doing a little dance, making a little love, and getting down tonight. Packed clubs across the U.S. and Europe show the revitalized spirit of letting loose on the dance-floor as a way to escape the monotony our respective 9 to 5′s.

For these reasons, I am proud to present the first installment of the Techibeats exclusive “Grout Tapes – In the Groove”. Every week we will be bringing you a pack of the funkiest nu-disco, groove tracks on the web for your listening pleasure.

The songs this week range from covers of classic funk, R&B and hip-hop tracks, groovy remixes of electronic staples and original productions by the rising stars of this stellar genre of EDM. With bright, airy synths, catchy lyrics and toe-tappin’, head bobbin’ bass, every track in the Grout Tapes is perfect for a day on the beach, at the pool, cruising with the windows down or anytime you’re ready to “Get Down On It”. So hit play and get ready to ride the bassline into Funkytown. Be sure to check out the rest of the tracks after the bump!

I suggest any of you coming home on a long drive from college throw this on and enjoy in amazement. The mixing quality is to a tee, and the tracklist goes HAM.

It’s official, Tiësto and Skrillex have made Forbes Magazine Most Powerful Celebrities. Tiësto hits the list at #84 above  Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling and under actress Meryl Streep.  Skrillex makes the list a bit lower at #92 above 30 Rock star Tina Fey and under comedian Larry The Cable Guy. Mason – The Kickoff [Preview]

Today I have an awesome techno track from Dutch duo Mason, that is set to release very soon on their own label, Animal Language. These guys make some really unique tracks and remixes, gaining support from Carl Cox, Pete Tong & A-Trak and doing remixes for big producers such as Moby, Hadouken, Zoo Brazil, and even Steve Aoki. “The Kickoff” is a groovy track with a disco feel to it, keeping the energy high throughout while sampling in some vocals to “keep a pretty close watch on these guys”…coincidence? I think not. Enjoy!

Hard School – Fly Over The Sky (Taylor Thomas Remix)

Soon to be released on Burn Up Records, Taylor Thomas’ electro house remix to Hard School’s ‘Fly Over The Sky’ will further continue Taylor’s expansion into the EDM world. At the young age of 17, this Dallas native certainly shows a promising future and has already been supported by top names such as Lucky Date, Zedd, and many more. If you like what you hear (which I know you will), check Taylor out on Facebook, and show this up and comer some love.

Little People – Arboretum

Today I have a chill electronic, downtempo track from prominent producer Little People. After making music for Fisher Price on their toy commercials, Little People decided to start producing beats and man does he succeed at it! “Arboretum” is a great track to listen to on a relaxed day, having a groovy bassline and bongos all over a hip-hop styled beat. I hope everyone can enjoy this one trying to chill after finishing finals this last month!

Flashback Friday: Pistols & Hearts – Captain Phoenix (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Since the official release to iTunes on August 13, 2007, Bloody Beetroots’s remix to Pistol & Hearts’ ‘Captain Phoenix’, has remained a very unique track, incorporating the styles of both EDM and rock. Bloody Beetroots have always ventured into unconventional genres, but this particular jam has always been a personal favorite. The guitar riffs run perfectly with the indie vocals and staple drum samples. Any of you rock fans or EDM heads will love this track if you haven’t heard it already. Enjoy!

DATSIK – The Coachella Diaries

Troy Beetles, better yet known as dubstep legend, Datsik invites you backstage to the world renown music festival Coachella. In this mini documentary, Datsik shares his personal festival experience, the details on the production of his set, and all the familiar faces he parties with along the way on his Indio adventure. Nero, Porter Robinson, Madeon, Flux Pavilion, & Kaskade get some cameos just to name a few. The documentary builds up from his arrival to the polo grounds, him unleashing the bass on the sahara tent, all the way to him getting down to Snoop & Dre as they close out the festival. Genix – Nytra [Preview]

Genix is one of those new producers in the trance industry that pushes the styles of production while keeping that classic sound that everyone loves. After his successful tracks on Anjunabeats Volume 9, he gives us another original titled “Nytra”. This would be one of those tracks people call ‘Trance 2.0′, where he brings other genre elements into his production keeping it fresh and energetic for the clubs. “Nytra” is set to release on Anjunabeats June 4th.

Hardwell feat. Mitch Crown – Call Me A Spaceman (Extended Mix + Official Music Video)

Today, the legendary Hardwell released ‘Call Me A Spaceman’, the extended vocal mix to his original world-renowned banger, ‘Spaceman’. This particular track, featuring the vocals of veteran singer, Mitch Crown, will without a doubt be one of the most recognized anthems throughout the EDM world for years to come. With such an anxiety inducing build, bass friendly drop, and signature production quality, the track will inevitably be not only a chart climber but also a game changer. Hardwell also released the music video for this hit single, and I’ve included it below as well. Enjoy!

Flashback Friday: Benny Bennassi & The Biz – Satisfaction (Radio Edit)

As I’ve said before, Flashback Friday is all about the game changers. On February 23 of 2003, Benny Benassi & The Biz gave us just that with their hit single, “Satisfaction”. Since its release, the track has been remixed, bootlegged, mashed up, sampled, you name it; the song is an anthem. Just months ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Benny at the craziest school on the planet, The University of Arizona, and let me tell you – he has still got it. He concluded his set with Satisfaction (J. Rabbit Bootleg), which completely threw the crowd off guard (in the best way possible), so I thought I’d include it below as well.
